Day 3 Inverness Highland games

Saturday was dreary, cold and rainy.

Perfect weather for Highland games!!
These games are somewhat different than back in the states. They not only have the heavy athletics, they also had lacrosse and several distance running events. The masters groups were divided by age categories and they had several events going on simultaneously at different locations around the grounds.
I tried to take pictures when it wasn't raining too hard.
Of course no games would be complete without the pipe bands.

The US was represented well at the games with several competitors in the masters championships.

This is what a lot of the field looked like. Pretty messy.

In the bad weather, this tent was pretty popular. But the whole tent isn't for beer, just the near end. The rest is the Clan Village. Having it inside was a very good idea.

I took the walking trail from the park back to downtown via the Ness Islands, a small group of islands in the Ness river that are joined by bridges. The weather had gotten a little better by then.

Saturday evening I walked back into town to meet up with a friend from the Xmarksthescot forum and his wife. We had a nice time at Hootenanny and met some interesting people from Germany, Australia and of course Scotland. We even had someone buy us a wee dram of Balvenie Doublewood.

I will be posting pictures from Sunday soon.
