My new netbook

I am making my very first blog post from my new Acer aspire1 netbook. It's got the 10 in. screen and I am just starting to get the hang of it. This is the first real typing I've done on it so I'm having to get used to the keys.
The reasoning behind this purchase is it will be a perfect littel travel companion when I go to Scotland. They claim the Acer has "up to 7 hour" battery life and I've been using it for almost half an hour and the remaining battery life meter keeps going up instead of down! Right now it is at 8:11 remaining. I kind of wonder how accurate this meter is. If this keeps up I'll never have to recharge it. Maybe I can sell the excess energy to Al Gore.

The netbook comes with Office 2007 trial edition, MS Works, McAfee AV and a few other utilities. The first thing I did was delete most of those and install AVG antivirus, Google chrome and am going to install Open Office shortly. I'm trying to use programs that are not as resource intensive as most of the usual Office and MS products are. I'll be using various web mail clients instead of Outlook or OE for instance.

I'll also be using it to back up my photos when I travel since it will fit in the top of my backpack camera bag. It's even got a media card reader but I haven't tried that out yet. Well back to downloading and updating until I get it all set up.

Slainte!!

Counting down the days

Less than 2 months now until I leave for Scotland!!!

I've got plenty of data cards for my camera, have my plane tickets, rental car and rooms lined up and ready, and just ordered a netbook so I can hopefully blog some while I'm there. Though I kind of doubt anyone has even looked at this blog besides me so it's kind of like talking to myself.

I'm used to that. We have great conversations. :)

The Scots are coming to Scottsboro

The North Alabama Scottish Festival is June 20th in Scottsboro, AL.
There will be highland athletics (that's the big guys in kilts throwing trees), border collie demonstrations, Scottish food, piping and drumming competitions, and great musical entertainment!
It will be at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro.
You don't have to be Scottish to come out and enjoy the festival. This is the only Scottish festival in the state of Alabama now and we'd love to see you there!
